We're looking for a motivated individual to join our programming team as VR Programming Assistant — working with us in August-September 2026 to help research, develop and deliver this new strand.
This is a project-based associate role. You'll be embedded in the team, contributing to real decisions, and seeing your work culminate in a live festival premiere.

→ Confident written English and professional email communication
→ Organised, self-motivated and able to work independently online
→ Curiosity about VR, XR or immersive storytelling (we'll help with the rest)
→ Although the internship is remote - we prefer candidates based in the North West of England
→ We also prefer to work with people we haven't worked before
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
→ Researching the VR film landscape — festivals, distributors, titles and emerging filmmakers
→ Helping to identify and compile a longlist of VR works for festival programming consideration
→ Supporting outreach and communication with filmmakers and rights holders
→ Assisting with programme notes, web copy and promotional materials
→ Attending online team meetings and contributing to programming discussions
→ Optionally joining us in person in Morecambe in January 2027 for the festival itself
WHAT YOU'LL GAIN
→ A substantive credit on an international film festival programming team
→ Hands-on experience in film programming, VR/XR content curation and festival operations
→ Skills in professional arts communication, research and project coordination
→ Insight into how an independent festival is programmed and run end-to-end
→ A strong portfolio piece and reference for roles in film, media, arts or tech
→ The chance to be part of launching something genuinely new

ABOUT THE ROLE
TBIFF is run by a brilliant team of volunteers - more than 70% of the festival is powered by people who simply love independent film and/or local community. We're launching a new YouTube strand of short, lively conversations with the filmmakers who've screened with us, and we're looking for two volunteers to become the face and the makers of it: hosting the interviews, then editing, designing and sharing the finished pieces.
This is a volunteer role. You'll have real creative ownership of your videos - from the questions you ask on camera to the thumbnail that gets the click - and see your work go live on our channels.
WHAT WE'RE EXPECTING FROM VOLUNTEERS
→ A genuine love for independent film and strong opinions on content
→ Confidence on camera and a knack for a good conversation
→ Solid video editing skills
→ An eye for design and visual storytelling (thumbnails, reels)
→ Organised, self-motivated and able to work independently online
→ You can be based anywhere in the world as the role is fully online!
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
→ Running short Zoom interviews with our alumni filmmakers
→ Editing the interview footage into finished YouTube videos(15–20 mins)
→ Designing a thumbnail for each video
→ Cutting short reels for Instagram highlights
→ Uploading, posting and publishing to YouTube
→ Delivering roughly 2–3 interviews per month (flexible scheduling)
WHAT YOU'LL GAIN
→ A substantive credit as host and creator on an international film festival's channel
→ Hands-on experience across interviewing, editing, design and social content
→ Direct access to and connections with independent filmmakers
→ A strong, visible portfolio of finished video work
→ Real creative freedom over the platforms we hand you
→ The chance to help launch something genuinely new
THE PRACTICAL DETAILS
This is a 5 months role, starting August 2026. This is a volunteering position and we are willing to be supportive, help you make connections and agree on the commitment as light and flexible. We propose to create 2-3 interviews per month but we can adapt based on your availability. Plus, working as a team or two people can make the workload even lighter. Everything is fully remote, so you can take part from wherever you are. We will provide access to our platforms and connect you with all the filmmakers.
